Basketball Game Preview: Redmond Mustangs vs. Newport - Bellevue Knights

The Redmond Mustangs will head out to face off against the Newport - Bellevue Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Redmond's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last six matchups.

Last Saturday, Redmond was able to grind out a solid victory over Sammamish, taking the game 56-46. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 24th, while the RedHawks are ranked 176th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Iha Kasam was her usual excellent self, going 8 for 19 on her way to 22 points. Her afternoon made it eight games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sofia Locati, who went 5 of 12 en route to 13 points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals.

Redmond was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Sammamish only posted four assists.

Meanwhile, it's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 67-18, which was the final score in Newport - Bellevue's tilt against Lakeside on Monday. The game marked the Knights' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Redmond pushed their record up to 16-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. As for Newport - Bellevue, they have also traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-12 record this season.

Redmond strolled past Newport - Bellevue in their previous matchup back in December of 2024 by a score of 56-42. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Newport - Bellevue's Portia Polo, who posted 26 points along with six boards and four steals. Now that she's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Redmond still be able to contain Polo? There's only one way to find out.
