The River Valley Vikings lost against the Shelby Whippets back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. River Valley fell just short of Shelby by a score of 46-43. While losing is never fun, River Valley can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 288th, while Shelby is ranked 131st).
When it comes to explaining why River Valley lost, one person who can't be blamed is Lexie Hecker. Despite the final result, she scored 18 points along with two steals. Hecker hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Halle Snyder, who scored nine points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
River Valley now has a losing record at 8-9. As for Shelby, their win bumped their record up to 12-4.
River Valley will head out on the road to face off against Highland at 2:15 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Highland focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Thursday. As for Shelby, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Clear Fork at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Clear Fork will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
