The Sequoia Charter Stallions couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They were beaten by Ville de Marie Academy 76-44 on Tuesday.
Sequoia Charter's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Asher Roehl, who scored 14 points. Another player making a difference was Mateo Gomez, who scored 12 points.
Ville de Marie Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Daniel Dwyer led the charge by scoring 30 points along with 6 steals and 5 assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Simon Lowicki, who scored 18 points.
Sequoia Charter's defeat dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Ville de Marie Academy, their win bumped their record up to 1-0.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Sequoia Charter will take on American Heritage Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Ville de Marie Academy, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Arrowhead Christian Academy at 7:30 p.m. Hopefully Arrowhead Christian Academy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 29 on Monday.
