The Desert Vista Thunder entered their tilt with the Desert Ridge Jaguars with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Couldn't have asked for a better start to 2024 than the 63-32 blowout they got on the road against Desert Ridge. The match was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 44-13.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Desert Vista to victory, but perhaps none more so than Dylan Swindle, who scored 17 points along with five rebounds. The contest was Swindle's 12th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Eanae Dagons, who scored nine points along with six steals.
Desert Ridge's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Mya Finister, who scored 13 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks, and Kaycee Steinke who scored 12 points along with three blocks. That's the first time this season that Steinke posted two or more blocks.
Desert Vista's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-4. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 79.8 points per game. As for Desert Ridge, their loss dropped their record down to 7-7.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Desert Vista will take on Valley Vista at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Valley Vista is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. As for Desert Ridge, they have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Queen Creek at 5:30 p.m. on January 9th. Queen Creek comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last seven games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
