The Sam Rayburn Texans lost against the Deer Park Deer back in February of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. Sam Rayburn was outmatched by Deer Park on the road and fell 64-30. Sam Rayburn has struggled against Deer Park recently, as their contest on Wednesday was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the defeat, Sam Rayburn saw an underclassman step up: Kimari Mikell scored 20 points. The matchup was Mikell's third in a row with at least ten points.
Deer Park was led to victory by Alyssa Campos and Emily Ripley. Campos scored nine points, while Ripley scored 14 points. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Makayla Willis, who scored six points.
Sam Rayburn's defeat dropped their record down to 5-13. As for Deer Park, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 12-13.
Sam Rayburn will be playing at home against Pasadena at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Pasadena focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Wednesday. As for Deer Park, they will head out on the road to face off against South Houston at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The timing isn't great for South Houston: they have been struggling with four straight losses at home, while Deer Park has snatched up three consecutive wins on the road.
