4A Region I District 3 recap October 22, 2013
Amarillo was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to fourth in 4A Region I District 3. The Sandies defeated Caprock 63-21 earlier in the week.
Randall moved up to 266 from 324 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. The Raiders climbed the ranks as a result of topping Palo Duro 36-13.
Victor Rodriguez threw for 249 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Rodriguez put up the best numbers in passing as the Longhorns lost to Amarillo. Rodriguez's favorite target this week was Austin Cruz, who caught 5 passes for 73 yards.
Caprock's Rodriguez and Cruz have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Rodriguez has thrown for 1,628 yards this season, while Cruz has 29 catches for 389 yards. The Dons' Anthony McClain leads the league in rushing yards with 689.
The top two teams in 4A Region I District 3 will face off this week when first place Canyon takes on second place Caprock.
The Longhorns' offense has recorded 229 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while Canyon has permitted only 96 on the year.
The Eagles extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Dumas, 49-20. The win marks seventh in a row for the Canyon.
