Adrian Martinez was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in February.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Eliazar Martinez, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). JP Lopez was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing three bases.
Floydada always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .619. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Lockney had already won two in a row and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Cyclones as they made off with a 22-7 victory. That 15 run margin sets a new team best for the Longhorns this season.
Lockney let Dyllan Thiebaud and Darrin Jimenez run wild. Thiebaud fired off two home runs, four runs, and two stolen bases while going 4-for-4, while Jimenez went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. Those home runs marked the first that Thiebaud launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Aatrayu Leal, who scored three runs while going 1-for-3.
Lockney picked up their first home win, bumping their record up to 8-4. As for Floydada, their record now sits at 5-7.
Floydada suffered a grim 12-1 defeat to Lockney in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Whirlwinds avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
