Baseball Game Preview: Sunlake Seahawks vs. Land O' Lakes Gators

Sunlake hasn't had much luck against Land O' Lakes recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Seahawks will take on the Gators at 7:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Sunlake 3.2, Land O' Lakes 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Sunlake is headed into the game having just suffered their closest loss since March 6th on Friday. They fell just short of IMG Academy Silver by a score of 6-4.

Dominic Italiano put in work no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (zero). He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

In other batting news, Lucas Zarlenga was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring two runs while going 4-for-4. He has become a key player for Sunlake: the team is 6-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 7-8 otherwise.

Land O' Lakes not only won on Thursday, but they posted their biggest win since March 25th. Everything went their way against Central as they made off with a 9-1 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Gators.

Land O' Lakes also got a great performance from Zachary Kelly as he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits (and not a single walk). Kelly has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Trey Page, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI. Those two hits gave him a new career-high. Ethan Barclay was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Land O' Lakes' win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-9. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Sunlake, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-9.
