Even though the Point Arena Pirates scored an imposing 59 points on Friday, the Round Valley Mustangs still came out on top. Round Valley walked away with a 71-59 victory over the Pirates. This was payback for Round Valley, who suffered a 89-37 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Point Arena's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Derek Billy, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds, and Fernando Lopez who scored 20 points along with five rebounds. Billy is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last nine games he's played. Cody Chavez was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six rebounds.
Round Valley is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season. As for Point Arena, their loss ended a six-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-6.
Round Valley will head out on the road to take on the Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Anderson Valley has now lost 12 straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 1. As for Point Arena, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Bearcats at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Potter Valley will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 1455th, while the Pirates are ranked 687th).
