It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but the Oxford Chargers had no problem doing just that on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Germantown 47-44. The victory was familiar territory for Oxford who now have six in a row.
Oxford found their leader in underclassman Mitchell Grandjean, who threw for 226 yards and three touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. The team also got some help courtesy of Jay Brown, who gained 137 total yards and a touchdown.
Oxford pushed their record up to 8-3 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 44.3 points per game. As for Germantown, they now have a losing record at 5-6.
Oxford will square off against Starkville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Mississippi (Starkville is ranked sixth, while Oxford is ranked 17th). Germantown does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
