The Syracuse Titans will venture away from home to square off against the Fremont Silverwolves at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Syracuse has given up an average of 8.2 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
While Syracuse's victory against Farmington wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Titans had just enough and edged out the Phoenix 13-12. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Titans have posted since March 17th.
Syracuse got a massive performance out of Grace Thomas, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Olivia Brown was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Syracuse kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. They are 8-2 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Fremont was not the first on the board on Thursday, but they got there more often. They blew past Weber 17-2. That 15 run margin sets a new team best for the Silverwolves this season.
Adee Johnsen was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits. Johnsen was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Jessica Broadbent was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. Aly Tobias also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Fremont is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-13 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games. As for Syracuse, their win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-10.
Fremont's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Syracuse has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.3 hits per game. It's a different story for Fremont, though, as they've been averaging 10 hits. Given Syracuse's sizable advantage in that area, the Silverwolves will need to find a way to close that gap.
Syracuse might still be hurting after the 20-7 loss they got from Fremont in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Can the Titans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
