Even though the Northwest Guilford Vikings scored an imposing 58 points on Tuesday, the Grimsley Whirlies still came out on top. Grimsley snuck past the Vikings with a 62-58 win. Given Grimsley's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 102nd, while the Vikings are ranked 289th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Grimsley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Richard Goods, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 18 rebounds. Goods has been hot recently, having posted ten or more rebounds the last 15 times he's played. Nick Keith was another key contributor, scoring 20 points along with eight assists.
Grimsley has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. As for Northwest Guilford, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-9.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Grimsley will take on the Tigers at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Ragsdale is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses. As for Northwest Guilford, they will be playing at home against the Nighthawks at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Northern Guilford is coming into the match hot, having won their last three games.
