Despite the loss, Donahue Catholic had strong showings from Veronica Halisky, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and 19 rebounds, and Kate Siao, who dropped a double-double with ten points and 14 boards. Those 14 rebounds gave Siao a new career-high.
Even though they lost, Donahue Catholic smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in eight consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Victory Christian Academy hadn't done well against City of Life Christian Academy recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Victory Christian Academy breezed past City of Life Christian Academy to the tune of 58-21. The Storm have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 games by 20 points or more this season.
Donahue Catholic better keep an eye on Bianca Barroso. She was instrumental in Victory Christian Academy's win, putting up 13 points in addition to 17 boards and 11 steals. Barroso is becoming a predictor of Victory Christian Academy's success: when she posts at least five steals the team is undefeated (and 8-9 when she doesn't). Another player making a difference was Jade Grier, who went 6 for 12 en route to 17 points along with seven steals and six rebounds.
Victory Christian Academy has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 27.9 points over those games. As for Donahue Catholic, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-7.
