The Manteo Redskins will venture away from home to square off against the SouthWest Edgecombe Cougars at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Manteo comes in on three and SouthWest Edgecombe on seven.
If Manteo beats SouthWest Edgecombe with 15 runs on Wednesday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. The Redskins were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over Pasquotank County on Friday. Considering the Redskins have won six contests by more than ten runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Calleigh Bush made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, Bella Huntingford was a standout: she scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Brooklyn Creef also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Manteo always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .613. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .575 or higher in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, SouthWest Edgecombe posted their closest victory since March 11, 2024 on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 win over Ayden - Grifton.
Mackenzie Rogers spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Mackenzie Moore, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Another player making a difference was Alana Carroll, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.
SouthWest Edgecombe's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-3. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Manteo, their record now sits at 11-4.
Wednesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Manteo hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .368. However, it's not like SouthWest Edgecombe struggles in that department as they've averaged .378. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
