Lakewood Ranch and Sarasota are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2021, but likely not for long. The Mustangs will be playing at home against the Sailors at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Lakewood Ranch is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 18 runs on Tuesday, they were much more limited against Bishop Verot on Thursday. Lakewood Ranch saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bella Toscano, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one double.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Sarasota, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Braden River a 17-0 shutout on Wednesday. The Sailors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 contests by seven runs or more this season.
Tyler Sciesinski made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Sciesinski was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Sarasota let Sommer Speers and Mady Pint run wild. Speers went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double, while Pint went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most stolen bases Speers has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Gia Depastino, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Sarasota was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .579. They are a perfect 11-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Sarasota is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Lakewood Ranch, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-9.
Lakewood Ranch might still be hurting after the 10-0 loss they got from Sarasota when the teams last played back in March. Will the Mustangs have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
