Stillwater has gone a perfect 8-0 against Irondale recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Ponies will host the Knights at 4:30 p.m. Stillwater will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
Stillwater is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Minnesota's top teams: Centennial, who was ranked 20th at the time (Stillwater was ranked 14th). The Ponies sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-2 victory over the Cougars on Friday.
Ella Weisser looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Maya Schroeder, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Irondale). They never let Park Center get on the board and left with a 14-0 win on Friday. The Knights have beaten the Pirates the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Pirates has come to flipping the script.
Adahlia Eames was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles, three RBI, and two runs. Those doubles marked the first that she has hit this season. Maria Walsh was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs.
Irondale always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .583. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Stillwater's victory was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.4 runs over those games. As for Irondale, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-6.
Irondale's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Stillwater has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.9 hits per game. It's a different story for Irondale, though, as they've been averaging 11.4 hits. Given Stillwater's sizable advantage in that area, the Knights will need to find a way to close that gap.
Stillwater took their win against Irondale in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 16-0 score. Do the Ponies have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Knights turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
