West Rowan and East Rowan are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2022, but likely not for long. The Falcons will welcome the Mustangs at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (West Rowan 3.2, East Rowan 1.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
West Rowan took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They came out on top against Central Cabarrus by a score of 8-4. The win continues a trend for the Falcons in their matchups with the Vikings: they've now won three in a row.
Arabelle Shulenburger made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, West Rowan let Riley Hagaas and EA Nance run wild. Hagaas went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Nance went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Reese Poole was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double.
West Rowan was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .320 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, East Rowan's rock-solid pitchers showed up for the team's fifth consecutive shutout on Thursday. They never let Lake Norman Charter get on the board and left with an 11-0 victory. Considering the Mustangs have won 13 games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
West Rowan's win was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 16-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games. As for East Rowan, their win bumped their record up to 17-2.
West Rowan might still be hurting after the 6-0 defeat they got from East Rowan when the teams last played back in March. Will the Falcons have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
