Salida and Buena Vista are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2016, but not for long. The Salida Spartans will head out on the road to take on the Buena Vista Demons at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Salida is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
Last Saturday, Salida came up short against Lamar and fell 37-29. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Salida in their matchups with Lamar: they've now lost five in a row.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Juliana Anch, who scored 11 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Braeden Johnson, who scored four points along with three steals.
In what's become a running theme this season, Buena Vista gave their fans yet another huge victory on Thursday. They took their contest on the road with ease, bagging a 65-21 win over James Irwin. Given Buena Vista's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 148th, while James Irwin is ranked 311th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Salida's defeat dropped their record down to 9-9. As for Buena Vista, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-6.
Salida came up short against Buena Vista in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, falling 25-20. Can Salida avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
