Baseball Recap: Devon Prep's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Devon Prep had lost four games straight , but after bumping their record up to 3-8 on Thursday that streak is in the rearview. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Conwell-Egan Catholic Eagles 5-4. For the Tide, this counts as revenge for the 8-7 win the Eagles walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Billy Degler looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Alex Hannah, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Austin Conaty, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

As for Conwell-Egan Catholic, they now have a losing record of 5-6. As for they, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-6.

On Conwell-Egan Catholic's side, Brady Guzzie put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over six innings pitched. Guzzie also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Conwell-Egan Catholic is 4-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-4 otherwise. Guzzie was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. That home run was his first of the season.

Guzzie wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Joey Ortiz, who went 1-for-3 with one run. Connor Landau also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
