East Grand Rapids is 1-9 against Christian since October of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will shake off the cobwebs and hit the court against one another at 6:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Tuesday, East Grand Rapids had just enough and edged out Forest Hills Central 3-2.
East Grand Rapids was staring down a 2-1 deficit headed into the fourth set, but they rallied to take the next two for the win. The match finished with set scores of 28-26, 21-25, 24-26, 25-21, 15-13.
Among those leading the charge was Ava Chapman, who had seven digs and two aces. That's the most digs she has posted over her last six contests.
Chapman wasn't the only good servers: East Grand Rapids was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 17 aces. That's the most aces they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Christian beat Catholic Central 3-1 on Tuesday. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Cougars recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.
Christian was especially dominant in the second set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-19, 25-15, 19-25, 27-25.
Christian's victory bumped their record up to 30-7. As for East Grand Rapids, their win bumped their record up to 26-8.
East Grand Rapids beat Christian 2-0 when the teams last played back in September. Will the Pioneers repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
