Basketball Recap: Robert F. Smith STEAM Academy Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Jackson Taylor and Jamar Yelverton

Robert F. Smith STEAM Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 51-42 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pueblo East Eagles. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 304th, while the Eagles are ranked 145th).

Jamar Yelverton and Jackson Taylor certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Yelverton went 5 of 9 on his way to 12 points along with seven steals and five boards, while Taylor dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten boards. Taylor is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: he's pulled down at least eight every time he's taken the court this season.

Pueblo East got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Izaiah Trujillo out in front who went 9 of 17 on his way to 20 points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Enzo Pecoraro, who posted 12 points.

Robert F. Smith STEAM Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Pueblo East, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.

After both having extra time off, Robert F. Smith STEAM Academy and DSST: Conservatory Green will dust off their jerseys to take on one another at 6:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Robert F. As for Pueblo East, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Cheyenne Mountain at 3:00 p.m. on January 9, 2025.
