After a string of three wins, the Southern Fulton Indians's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell just short of Claysburg-Kimmel by a score of 38-36. While losing is never fun, Southern Fulton can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 312th, while Claysburg-Kimmel is ranked 132nd).
Southern Fulton's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ethan Mellott, who scored ten points along with five rebounds. The matchup was Mellott's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Stotler, who scored nine points along with three steals.
It was another big night for Elias Ritchey, who scored 22 points for Claysburg-Kimmel. Ritchey hasn't dropped below two steals for three straight games.
Southern Fulton's defeat dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Claysburg-Kimmel, they pushed their record up to 4-1 with that win, which was their third straight at home.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southern Fulton will take on Windber at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Claysburg-Kimmel, they will head out on the road to face off against Curwensville at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Curwensville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 on Thursday.
