The Thornton Trojans lost against the Adams City Eagles last Friday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Thornton fell 44-37 to Adams City. Thornton has not had much luck with Adams City recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Thornton lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Julionna Sandoval, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds. Sandoval also posted two blocks for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Araya Williams, who scored four points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Adams City's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Morgan Williams led the charge by scoring ten points along with six rebounds and three steals. Williams is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played. Another player making a difference was Fernanda Hernandez, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.
Thornton has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season. As for Adams City, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-8.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Thornton will square off against Northglenn on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Northglenn is ranked 234th, while Thornton is ranked 250th). As for Adams City, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against DSST: Green Valley Ranch at 6:00 p.m. on January 26th.
