Basketball Recap: Monarch Sets Scoring Season-High Against Heritage

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Monarch). They took down the Heritage Eagles 81-67 on Saturday. The Coyotes have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Eagles, too.

Monarch's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ryder Hutton led the charge by going 7 for 12 on his way to 19 points. Hutton is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Riley Montemayor, who made all 6 shots he took for 14 points and six rebounds.

Heritage lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Charlie Gilloth, who went 7 of 16 on his way to 17 points. Gilloth's afternoon made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Brayden Chaney, who went 5 of 10 en route to 12 points along with seven boards and three steals.

Monarch has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 71.2 points per game. As for Heritage, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-6.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Monarch will host Mead at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mead is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 63 points per game this season. As for Heritage, it'll be Battle of the Birds when the Heritage Eagles duke it out with the Mountain Vista Golden Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
