The Glenwood Titans had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18.3 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Saturday. They enjoyed a cozy 55-38 win over Springfield Southeast. Given Glenwood's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 65th, while the Spartans are ranked 290th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Glenwood's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Alexis Neumann, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds. Neumann hasn't dropped below nine rebounds for three straight games. Makenna Yeager was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with six rebounds.
When it comes to explaining why Springfield Southeast lost, one person who can't be blamed is Marisa Gant. Despite the final result, she scored 18 points along with three steals. Gant is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 16 or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Chloe Crawford, who scored eight points.
Glenwood's win was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 21-6. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.7 points per game. As for Springfield Southeast, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-18 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Glenwood will take on the Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Lanphier and the Titans are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads.
