Baseball Recap: Dirigo Triumphs

Dirigo was handed a 14-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Mountain Valley Falcons, sneaking past 5-4. The Cougars have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Falcons, too.

Colin Waugh made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. Waugh was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one triple and one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Trevor Crosby, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. He has become a key player for Dirigo: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-8 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Hudson Lufkin, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Dirigo hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are 2-1 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Dirigo is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 8-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.7 runs over those games. As for Mountain Valley, they now have a losing record of 8-9-1.

Dirigo has already played their next contest, an 8-1 defeat against Old Orchard Beach on the 11th. Mountain Valley has also already played their next game (against Lake Region), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
