Baseball Recap: Marshall Academy's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

After low-scoring totals in their previous three contests, Marshall Academy brought some dynamite into their most recent match. They walked away with a 12-8 victory over Heritage Academy on Friday. With that win, Marshall Academy brought their scoring average up to 6.7 runs per game.

Phillip Sharpe made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. He has become a key player for Marshall Academy: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most three hits, but 1-2 otherwise. Sharpe was even better at the plate, scoring three runs while going 4-for-5. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kyler Todd, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. He also got three hits, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Hayden Lundine, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances.

Marshall Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .523. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

With the victory, Marshall Academy broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 3-3. As for Heritage Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-5 record this season.

Marshall Academy will face off against Lake Cormorant at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Marshall Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season. As for Heritage Academy, they will take on Starkville at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. Heritage Academy has given up an average of 8.5 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
