The Oxon Hill Clippers on the road again on Monday and play against the Gwynn Park Yellowjackets at 7:15 p.m. on January 22nd. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Oxon Hill posted their biggest victory since December 14, 2023 on Thursday. They blew past Crossland, posting a 73-17 victory on the road. Given Oxon Hill's advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 52nd, while Crossland is ranked 238th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Oxon Hill's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Dashani Coleman, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. Madison Williams was another key contributor, scoring 21 points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Gwynn Park scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They breezed by Douglass at home to the tune of 88-45. The matchup was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 65-28.
Gwynn Park's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Geornae Davis, who scored 11 points along with three blocks and two steals. That's the first time this season that Davis posted two or more blocks. Another player making a difference was Keira Mason, who scored 13 points along with three steals.
Oxon Hill's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 77.0 points per game. As for Gwynn Park, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-4.
Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as Oxon Hill and Gwynn Park are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Oxon Hill hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having only averaged 67.3 points per game. It's a different story for Gwynn Park, though, as they've been averaging only 62.8 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Oxon Hill didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Gwynn Park in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, but they still walked away with a 37-32 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Oxon Hill since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
