The Smoky Mountain Mustangs were the 61-49 winner over the Swain County Maroon Devils when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Smoky Mountain fell to Swain County 64-58. Even though they lost, Smoky Mountain's still made a splash on offense and bumped their average scoring up to 50.5 points per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).
Several Mustangs players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cameron Fowler, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Custer Prenger, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 10 rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Smoky Mountain and nudges their season record down to 0-2. As for Swain County, their victory bumped their record up to 1-0.
Smoky Mountain won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Brevard at 8:00 p.m. on November 29th. Brevard presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Smoky Mountain in North Carolina (Brevard is ranked 182nd, while Smoky Mountain is ranked 369th). As for Swain County, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Franklin at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Franklin focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up nine on Thursday.
