The Gibbs Gladiators were the 20-18 winner over the St. Petersburg Green Devils when they last played one another back in November of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Gibbs fell 27-14 to St. Petersburg on Friday. While losing is never fun, Gibbs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida football rankings (they are ranked 342nd, while St. Petersburg is ranked 140th).
Jeff Jones was his usual excellent self, rushing for 254 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 15.9 yards per carry, and also throwing for 78 yards and a touchdown while completing 75% of his passes. Jones is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last ten games he's played. Vontavious Ducksworth was in the mix as well, providing St. Petersburg with two touchdowns.
Another reason for the win was St. Petersburg's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. Leading the way was Patrick Walker and his three sacks.
Gibbs' defeat dropped their record down to 1-8. As for St. Petersburg, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-2.
Gibbs does not have any more games scheduled as of now. St. Petersburg also has no future games currently scheduled.
