On Friday, the Pike Road Patriots were able to grind out a solid win over the Clay-Chalkville Cougars, taking the game 7-2.
Hunter Matthes and Ethan Hunter dominated on the mound. Matthes pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits, while Hunter tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
At the plate, Runner Stripling was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in stolen bases. Quinton Robinson was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases.
Pike Road always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .525. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Clay-Chalkville only posted an OBP of .323.
The victory got Pike Road back to even at 1-1.
Looking ahead, Pike Road will square off against Lee-Scott Academy at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Clay-Chalkville, they will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against St. Clair County at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
