The West St. John Rams will head out on the road to challenge the Riverdale Rebels at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
West St. John fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back victories it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They enjoyed a cozy 37-23 win over Thrive Academy last Thursday.
Meanwhile, Riverdale waltzed into their game on Wednesday with three straight wins but they left with four. They walked away with a 53-42 victory over West Jefferson. Given Riverdale's advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 124th, while West Jefferson is ranked 338th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Riverdale's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mazie Parmley, who scored 11 points along with nine rebounds and five steals. Parmley has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Jaeshaunie Martin, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and four steals.
West St. John pushed their record up to 5-13 with that win, which was their third straight on the road. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 15.33 points. Riverdale's record now sits at 16-2.
West St. John suffered a grim 41-21 defeat to Riverdale in their previous matchup back in November of 2023. Can West St. John avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
