The University City Centurions entered their tilt with the Scripps Ranch Falcons with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. University City put the hurt on Scripps Ranch with a sharp 70-45 victory on Tuesday. Given University City's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 177th, while Scripps Ranch is ranked 367th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading University City to victory were Dylan Griffin and Ben Gavani. Griffin dropped a double-double on 22 points and 12 rebounds, while Gavani scored 29 points along with eight rebounds. The game was Gavani's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Luca Anzaldua bertholdo, who scored 12 points.
University City's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-6. As for Scripps Ranch, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 11-9 record this season.
University City will head out on the road to face off against La Jolla at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in La Jolla's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three matchups. As for Scripps Ranch, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Coronado at 7:30 p.m. Coronado has insisted on making their lastthree contests complete nail-biters, turning in a record of 0-3 during that stretch of close contests.
