Greater Western Ohio - Central recap October 8, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in Greater Western Ohio - Central this week, Centerville beat Fairmont 35-21. The win marks sixth in a row for the the Elks.
The Firebirds scaled the state rankings by moving to 165 from 205 this week, the biggest jump in the league. Fairmont climbed the ranks as a result of falling to Centerville 35-21.
Ron Ullery's team's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. On the ground Damian Popp chipped in 187 yards.
Popp was a passing and rushing force as the Elks bested Andy Aracri's team.
Popp was the best running back in the league this week. In 19 carries, he ran for 187 yards as Centerville beat the Firebirds. Will Vance also contributed to the rushing game with 78 yards on the ground.
Northmont's Graham Oberer and Cameron Taylor led Greater Western Ohio - Central in both passing and receiving yards. Oberer has thrown for 665 yards this season, while Taylor has 19 catches for 268 yards. The Elks' Popp leads the league in rushing yards with 1,214.
Two of the top teams in the league will go toe-to-toe this week when Centerville takes on the Thunderbolts. The Elks' offense has recorded 258 points this season, making them No. 1 in the league, while Northmont has permitted only 82 on the year.
One of the league's premier quarterbacks will go head-to-head with its top pass rusher when Lance Schneider's team and Centerville face off next week.
At the moment, the Thunderbolts are in third, while the Elks are in first.
There should be lots of points scored when Northmont and Centerville face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Thunderbolts comes in having scored 77 this season, while the Elks have scored 258. Northmont scored 25 points last week as it defeated Beavercreek.
The Thunderbolts took down the Beavers 25-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.
