Make it nine blowout wins for the Elgin/Pope John Wolfpack this season. They blew past Central Valley 56-15 on the road. Given Elgin/Pope John's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 39th, while Central Valley is ranked 173rd), the result on Tuesday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading Elgin/Pope John to victory were Brenna Martinsen and Ashlynne Charf. Martinsen scored ten points, while Charf scored 13 points.
Despite the loss, Central Valley still got an impressive performance from Alexis Johnson, who scored three points along with nine rebounds.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Central Valley struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
The win (which was Elgin/Pope John's fourth in a row) raised their record to 14-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.0 points per game. As for Central Valley, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-7.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Elgin/Pope John will take on Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Humphrey/Lindsay Holy Family has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Central Valley, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Heartland Lutheran at 6:00 p.m. on January 25th.
