If the MaxPreps state rankings hold true, the near future looks bright for Placer. They will look to defend their home turf on Friday against Ponderosa at 7:00 PM. Ponderosa will need to watch out since Placer have now posted big point totals in their last eight contests.
Last Friday, Placer put the finishing touches on their 7th blowout victory of the season. They took their game against Oakmont by a conclusive 45-20 score. No one put up better numbers for Placer than junior Jesse Whigam, who brought his A game into the match. He rushed for 88 yards and 2 touchdowns. In fact, with nine tackles Whigam was a force on both sides of the ball.
As for Ponderosa, they had a rough outing against Lincoln two weeks ago, but a little bit of home cooking seems to have fixed things right up. Ponderosa had just enough and edged out Nevada Union 38-35. The score was all tied up at the break, but Ponderosa were the better team in the second half.
Their wins bumped Placer to 8-0 and Ponderosa to 6-2. Since neither squad is a stranger to landslide victories this season, you'd better bet it will be hard-fought showdown.
