Sullivan is 6-1 against North Putnam since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Golden Arrows will take on the Cougars at 6:00 p.m. Sullivan is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.8 runs per game this season.
Sullivan will head out to face North Putnam after giving up their first home loss of the season on Tuesday. The Golden Arrows fell just short of Indian Creek by a score of 8-7. Golden Arrows fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Braves since on Tuesday.
Rachel Eslinger was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring a run while going 1-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Kensley Wiltermood, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday North Putnam's undefeated season almost came to an end. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Brown County, sneaking past 3-1. While the Cougars didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-19), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Tori Detro spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on zero hits and racked up 18 Ks. Those 18 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for her.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jolie Rust, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double. That double marked the first that she hit this season.
North Putnam's win was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-0. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average this season. As for Sullivan, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-4.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Sullivan hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .343. However, it's not like North Putnam struggles in that department as they've averaged .356. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Sullivan took their win against North Putnam when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 21-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Golden Arrows since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
