AAAA Region 4A recap November 13, 2013
Adding to the longest winning streak in AAAA Region 4A this week, Eagle's Landing beat Riverdale 31-0. The victory was the fourth in a row for the Eagles.
Locust Grove and Jonesboro played the closest game in the league this week, with Locust Grove eventually emerging with a 20-19 victory. Cortez McDowell ran for 17 yards and caught 8 passes for 111 yards in the win.
Emmet Sherrod was a key player and the best on defense this week as Eagle's Landing bested the Raiders. The 6-foot-1 defensive end racked up 2 sacks.
Bradley Dewberry put up the best numbers through the air as Joe Teknipp's team defeated Riverdale. He finished with a total of 10 completions for 194 yards and 1 touchdown. Dewberry's favorite target this week was Warren Wright, who caught 4 passes for 58 yards.
On the heels of Dewberry and Corey Holloway, the Eagles have had great success on offense. Dewberry leads the league in passing with 1,873 yards, while Holloway has rushed for 1,045 yards this season. The Wildcats' Justin Drake leads the league in receiving yards with 839 on 63 catches.
Going into this week's contest against Mary Persons, Eagle's Landing's Dewberry needs 127 passing yards to surpass 2,000 on the season.
Locust Grove made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,436 from 6,068. The improvement was the result of a 20-19 victory over the Cardinals last week.
