Germantown has gone a perfect 9-0 against Vicksburg recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Saturday. The Germantown Mavericks will look to defend their home field against the Vicksburg Gators at 2:00 p.m. Germantown is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Germantown barely beat Pearl the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Everything went Germantown's way against Pearl on Friday as Germantown made off with a 12-2 victory. The Mavericks haven't had any issues with the Pirates recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Ty Ramage was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, Ashton Smith was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-3. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Attison O'Cain, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
Germantown always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .676. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Vicksburg's offense. They lost 23-0 to Starkville on Friday. The Gators just can't catch a break and have now endured three defeats in a row.
Germantown's victory bumped their record up to 5-3. As for Vicksburg, their loss dropped their record down to 3-6.
Saturday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Germantown has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .465. However, it's not like Vicksburg struggles in that department as they've averaged .453. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Germantown took their win against Vicksburg when the teams last played back in April of 2019 by a conclusive 14-1. Does Germantown have another victory up their sleeve, or will Vicksburg turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
