The Jim Thorpe Olympians's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their ninth straight loss. They were the victim of a rough 79-57 defeat at the hands of Tamaqua. Jim Thorpe was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 47-27.
Tamaqua's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Cooper Ansbach, who almost dropped a triple-double on 19 points, 11 rebounds, and nine assists. Ansbach is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down eight or more in the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Noah Mateyak, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Jim Thorpe's loss was their ninth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-18. As for Tamaqua, their victory bumped their record up to 9-10.
Jim Thorpe is on the road again on Friday and plays the Spartans at 7:00 p.m. on February 2nd. North Schuylkill presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Olympians in Pennsylvania (the Spartans are ranked 253rd, while the Olympians are ranked 667th). As for Tamaqua, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pine Grove is coming into the contest on a four-game losing streak.
