The Torrey Pines Falcons will head out on the road to face off against the La Costa Canyon Mavericks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Torrey Pines is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road.
After only seven points in their last game, Torrey Pines made sure to put some points up on the board against Poway on Thursday. Torrey Pines was the clear victor by a 38-14 margin over Poway. Given Torrey Pines' advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 47th, while Poway is ranked 166th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Among those leading the charge was Jake Sweeney, who rushed for 116 yards and two touchdowns on only 14 carries. Sweeney's longest rush was for an incredible 75 yards. Another player making a difference was Lukas Tu, who threw for 193 yards and two touchdowns on only 17 passes.
Meanwhile, La Costa Canyon's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They fell 41-34 to Carlsbad. That's two games in a row now that La Costa Canyon has lost by exactly seven points.
Torrey Pines' victory bumped their season record to 6-3 while La Costa Canyon's defeat dropped theirs to 5-4.
Torrey Pines might still be hurting after the 32-7 loss they got from La Costa Canyon in their previous matchup back in October of 2022. Can Torrey Pines avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
