The McClave Cardinals are taking a road trip to take on the Holly Wildcats at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. McClave is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 12 runs per game this season.
It was a proper cat-fight when McClave faced off against Cheyenne Wells on Tuesday. The Cardinals were the clear victors by a 10-4 margin over the Tigers. The result was nothing new for the Cardinals, who have now won six matches by six runs or more so far this season.
The team relied heavily on Drew Howe, who scored a run and stole four bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Lawton Annen, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two RBI and one double.
McClave always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .657. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cheyenne Wells only posted an OBP of .423.
Meanwhile, Holly entered their tilt with Stratton on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 11-6.
Devin Eaton made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off seven hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-2.
In other batting news, Edson Noriega was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. Walker Neugebauer also deserves some recognition as he got his first hits of the season.
Holly pushed their record up to 4-6 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for McClave, their record is now 8-2.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. McClave hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .390. However, it's not like Holly struggles in that department as they've averaged .371. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
McClave couldn't quite get it done against Holly when the teams last played back in April of 2024 as they fell 8-4. Can the Cardinals avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
