It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Lake Catholic had no problem doing just that on Sunday. They walked away with a 3-1 victory over the New Lexington Panthers. Winning may never get old, but the Cougars sure are getting used to it with their eighth in a row.
Ahnna Bergant paced Lake Catholic's offense, picking up 23 kills. Bergant got some help from Ava Starr and her 48 assists. Lola Loncar controlled things from the service line, finishing with five aces.
Despite the defeat, New Lexington had strong showings from Gracie Newlon, who had 16 digs and two assists, and Makayla McCoy, who had seven digs. Newlon is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 12 or more in each of the last six games she's played.
Lake Catholic's win bumped their record up to 19-10. As for New Lexington, the loss snapped their winning streak at 13 matches and leaves them with a 26-3 record.
