The Greenfield Knights waltzed into their game on Thursday with seven straight wins but they left with eight. They walked away with a 72-61 victory over Cape Fear Academy. Given Greenfield's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 31st, while Cape Fear Academy is ranked 130th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cape Fear Academy lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Angelo Vega, who scored 17 points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was Isaiah Gibson, who scored 14 points.
Greenfield pushed their record up to 27-6 with that win, which was their tenth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 80.7 points per game. As for Cape Fear Academy, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 16-7.
Greenfield and Wayne Country Day will face off at 8:00 p.m. on February 9th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Greenfield knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 11 contests -- so hopefully Wayne Country Day likes a good challenge. Cape Fear Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
