The Mead Mavericks will venture away from home to face off against the Fairview Knights at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Fairview took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Mead, who comes in off a win.
Mead had to skate by with only a one-set margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the three-set drubbing they dealt Frederick on Tuesday. The Mavericks were the clear victors by a 3-0 margin over the Golden Eagles. The Mavericks haven't had any issues with the Golden Eagles recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Mead's got stronger as the match went on, holding Frederick to fewer and fewer points set over set. The match finished with set scores of 25-19, 25-17, 25-14.
Alana Costello and Kamdyn Morris were among the main playmakers for Mead as the former had nine digs and three aces and the latter had ten assists and two aces. That's the most aces Costello has posted over her last six matches.
They weren't the only good servers: Mead was lethal from the service line and finished the match with ten aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least five aces in 13 consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Fairview was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of Erie. While the Knights didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Tigers 25-19 in the first set.
Fairview started the match hot and won the first two sets, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The final score came out to 19-25, 15-25, 25-22, 28-26, 15-8.
Fairview's defeat dropped their record down to 4-12. As for Mead, their win bumped their record up to 10-5.
Everything went Mead's way against Fairview when the teams last played back in October of 2024, as Mead made off with a 3-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mavericks since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
