The Animo De La Hoya Boxers were the 54-35 winner over the Smidt Tech Grey Wolves when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Animo De La Hoya fell just short of Smidt Tech by a score of 56-53.
Smidt Tech found their leader in underclassman Aaron Merlos, who scored 25 points. The matchup was Merlos' fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Leo Pena, who scored 12 points.
Animo De La Hoya bumped their record down to 1-7 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 26.2 points per game. As for Smidt Tech, their victory bumped their record up to 2-5.
Animo De La Hoya will be playing in front of their home fans against Rise Kohyang at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Smidt Tech, they will head out on the road to face off against Annenberg at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
