4A Region I District 1 recap Nov. 7, 2012
Burges moved up to 381 from 433 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 4A Region I District 1. The Mustangs climbed the ranks as a result of beating Bowie 42-21.
Chapin extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Irvin, 49-21. This was the team's ninth consecutive win.
Andress's dynamic duo of RYAN METZ and EDDIE SINEGAL proved tough for El Paso to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. METZ threw for 306 yards and three touchdowns and SINEGAL had 215 yards receiving. ELDEN COLEMAN helped Andress' passing attack out by catching two balls for 55 yards.
Myles Douglas was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 158 yards on 23 carries as Austin topped the Tigers. Andy Banuelos also contributed to the rushing game with 86 yards on the ground.
Thanks to the talents of Seth Gonzalez and Geremiah Satele Chapin has been able to do all sorts of things on offense. Gonzalez leads the league in passing with 1864 yards, while Satele has rushed for 1144 yards this season. Andress' SINEGAL leads the league in receiving yards with 879 on 40 catches.
Patrick Brown's team's METZ is within 193 passing yards of surpassing 2,000 on the season coming into this week's game against the Rockets. So far this year, METZ has thrown for 1807 yards with 15 touchdowns and two interceptions.
A big matchup in 4A Region I District 1 this week will be when Jefferson takes on the Bears. The Silver Foxes are in seventh place, while Bowie is in third place.
Rene Hernandez's team led the league in scoring this week after putting up 49 points on Irvin.
