The Gatewood Gators will head out on the road to face off against the Piedmont Academy Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Gatewood came into Tuesday's game having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They managed a 36-32 win over Westminster Christian Academy on Tuesday. The win was just what Gatewood needed coming off of a 53-26 defeat in their prior matchup.
Meanwhile, Piedmont Academy came tearing into Tuesday's match with six straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They strolled past Brentwood with points to spare, taking the game 64-47. Winning is a bit easier when you make five more threes than your opponent, as Piedmont Academy did.
Marissa Holder was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 29 points and 12 rebounds. She has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 19 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sarah Ellen Stroud, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Gatewood's record now sits at 10-11. As for Piedmont Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten contests, which provided a massive bump to their 13-7 record this season.
Things could have been worse for Gatewood, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 63-46 loss to the Cougars in their previous meeting last Tuesday. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Holder, who dropped a double-double on 34 points and 11 rebounds. Now that Gatewood knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
