In the end, the showdown wasn't much of one as Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) showed why it's the No. 1 high school football team in the land with
a convincing 38-24 win over No. 2 St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.).

Bryce Young was 19-of-33 passing on the night for 256 yards and three touchdowns, all to
Kody Epps (10 catches, 160 yards), and rushed for 73 yards and two more scores as the visitors took what's likely to be the first round as Mater Dei and Bosco likely will meet for the CIF Southern Section Open Division title.
Mater Dei is a unanimous No. 1 in the Composite Top 25 rankings with all five ranking services putting the Monarchs at the top. The loss by Bosco allows St. Frances Academy (Baltimore) to creep up to a tie for second with the Braves.
Other than the Panthers sliding up to the tie for second, there was minimal movement as no new teams entered the Composite rankings.
Only schools recognized by two or more media outlets are eligible for
inclusion in the composite rankings. Teams were assigned a score of 40
for each media outlet that did not recognize them as part of their Top
25, rewarding teams that received consensus acclaim.
