Hector Anaya was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. He has become a key player for Quartz Hill: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 9-11 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Jason Cowan, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Quartz Hill kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in seven consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, after a string of 16 wins, Sultana's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell just short of Apple Valley by a score of 2-1. Sultans fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Sun Devils since on Thursday.
Sultana saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Isac Gamez, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Quartz Hill is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-11 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.1 runs over those games. As for Sultana, their defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 14-1 and their overall record down to 20-3-1.
Saturday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Quartz Hill hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .330. However, it's not like Sultana struggles in that department as they've averaged .333. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
